Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday Starts Filming Soon – Robert Downey Jr. Returns as a Villain!

Marvel’s next big movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is set to start filming in England this March! The film will hit theaters on May 1, 2026, and will be the first major movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Multiverse Saga. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.

One of the biggest surprises is that Robert Downey Jr. is coming back to the MCU, but not as Iron Man. Instead, he will play the villain Doctor Doom! This exciting casting choice was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024. The movie is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the same team behind Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

There has been a lot of confusion about the cast. Anthony Mackie will return as Captain America and Hayley Atwell will be back as Peggy Carter. The Fantastic Four and actors from Thunderbolts are also confirmed. However, Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange, first said he wouldn’t be in the movie but later changed his statement, saying he actually will be. Chris Evans, on the other hand, has said he is “happily retired” and won’t return as Captain America.

Downey Jr. spoke about his return, saying he had conversations with Marvel boss Kevin Feige and director Jon Favreau about coming back in a new role. After learning more about Doctor Doom, he became excited to take on the challenge of playing one of Marvel’s most famous villains.

Fans will have to wait until 2026 to see Avengers: Doomsday, but with filming starting soon, more casting news could be announced any day now!
